The Chicken Cam Moves Into the Command Planner

INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADE — CONTROL PANEL CONSOLIDATION For too long, facility operators kept two windows open at all times: the daily command planner, and — separately — the full chicken-cam control panel (cameras, treat feeder, lights, stream health, and the AI helper). All day. Clicking back and forth. This week we eliminated the second window. ONE PANE OF GLASS The ChookNation tab inside the planner now displays the entire control panel in place. Health readout, tap-to-switch cameras, the treat-dispensation button, the lights, the AI command box, the go-live controls — all embedded where operators already work. HOW IT WORKS We did not rebuild the panel. Rebuilding it would have created two copies destined to drift apart forever. Instead the planner frames the genuine control panel and relays messages back and forth. Press "feed," the planner hands the request to the stream software and relays the answer back. Add a button tomorrow and it appears automatically. Always in sync, because it is the real thing. THE SECURITY DETAIL The panel is password-protected — not just anyone gets to drop food into the run. When embedding one app inside another, it is tempting to let that password ride along in the browser where it can leak. We kept the key on the machine instead. Same convenience, none of the "whoops, that was public." THE NEAR-DISASTER It was not a clean run. Mid-operation, an automated publish step grabbed an older saved copy of the planner and cheerfully overwrote hours of work. Fortunately, that same step takes a backup the instant before it overwrites — so the thing that clobbered the work had, one second earlier, quietly saved it. Recovered. Nothing lost. CONTAINMENT NOTE: Lock in your work before an automated process tramples it. The chickens, as ever, have not noticed a thing.
